xvi executables on the web
Third-party binaries and unofficial ports have sprung up.
At the time of writing they are mostly for the early version.
I have tried to contact all maintainers, and encourage people
with working development systems to compile the latest version
and notify this project.
Amiga
HP-UX
- hpux.connect.org.uk
Binaries for PA-RISC architecture under HP-UX 10.20 or 11.00, and source.
Version: 2.19
Archived: 19 Oct 1999
Linux x86
- ibiblio.org
Version: 2.19

Files: xvi.tgz containing source, docs and "sysfiles.tar" with ancient Linux i386 ZMAGIC executable. So ancient that it doesn't run without the "binfmt_aout" kernel compatability module installed, and then it immediately dumps core. Great!
MSDOS
Windows NT
-
cybersoft.com
Version: 2.15 for Windows NT 3.1 and higher
Files: xvi-i.zip (executable),
xvi-s.zip (source code).
Interestingly, the source archive contains an rcs trail of modifications made to param.c and nt.c by "Brian" 1994-02-16.
- ataman.com carries the same files.
There is an extended version of xvi:
- xvi-sjis
A portable multi-window 'vi' handles Japanese SJIS
Version: 2.19
Port added: 27 Aug 2003
There are also a couple of binary file editors called XVI that are not xvi:
- The one mentioned at that idiot Sven Guckes "vi pages" is not xvi.
It is B. Sartirana's screen oriented hexidecimal/octal editor
from 1985, whose commands are a subset of those of "vi".

XVI32 is a freeware hex editor running under Windows 95 to XP.
The name is a pun on XVI being roman for 16.
